Glen's Story Part ll

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Nine months ago, I met Glen. We reconnected this past Friday.

For the past two weeks my parents noticed him walking by our house every night. I always seemed to miss him, so Friday night I stayed outside for a few hours to try and see if I could run into him. I was able to catch him walking by. In the beginning he didn’t remember me.

“I meet lots of people every day”. I showed him the photo I took of him, and he immediately recognized who I was, with tears in his eyes.

I gave him a copy of my promo card that he’s featured in, along with a print of his photograph and the story I wrote of him. He was very impressed and even stated that he was going to be putting it up on his wall in his room! This made my heart so happy.

He’s currently renting a room for $400 a month. (Coincidentally, it’s right now the street from my parent’s house!) In order to earn that money, he is still collecting empty beer bottles and cans. He also helps a friend collect scrap metal! If you meet him, you can tell he’s a very hard working man. He walks everywhere, daily.

After we chatted, I invited him to our home any time we’re here and he’s around. After working a long day, we said our goodbyes and he headed home to rest. As he was walking home, he began reading the story I wrote of him. He then turned back around and walked back to see me, with tears in his eyes. He loved the story I wrote about him. We hugged and chatted some more.

*I’m not sure what it is, but whenever I see people I’ve previously met living on the streets, it brings me so much serotonin reconnecting with them. I honestly do a little happy dance inside my head, haha.
