Pay It Forward

Updated: Dec 3, 2023

I thought I would share a little story with you.

A month ago, I did a photoshoot for a friend. With the money I made and the generous tip she gave me, I booked a tattoo touchup appointment.

Fast forward, the appointment was yesterday afternoon. Now, I’ve known this tattoo artist for three years. She created the beautiful peony piece on my arm. (Cj from Pink Ink Studios) We were discussing about my photography business and the projects I’ve been recently working on. She insisted I keep my money and to “save it for your photography business.”

This kind action made my absolute day.

After my appointment, my mom and I headed to Craig’s Cookies on Queen St E, Toronto. (They have the most delicious cookies!) The lady working the till kindly offered me one of their Toblerone cookies for free.

I came to a realization, my day has been filled in receiving kindness.

From a young age, my mother taught me to “pay it forward”. I did just exactly that and I knew who I was going to pay it forward to.

Most of you know, our homeless friend named Glen. Recently, I’ve noticed that his belongings are stored in a reusable beer store bag. His belongings get soaked when he’s outside all day and all night. So, right off the bat, he was the person I was going to pay it forward to. My plan was to buy him a waterproof backpack.

On our way home from Toronto, we stopped in at Sail (Laval Dr, Oshawa).

To make sure I was getting him the right one, I asked for a sales associate.

I mentioned what I needed it for and who would be using it.

Paul, the sales associate was outstanding in helping us find the right bag for Glen. He was so kind and compassionate. An overall great human being. He couldn’t believe what I was doing and even shed a few tears. He deserves so much recognition for all his help.

Without all the kindness the world has given me this past week, I wouldn’t have been able to do this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

The moral of the story is to pay it forward. Paying it forward can be done in so many different ways, no matter how small. Challenge yourself. Get out there and be kind.

The world could really use it right now.
